Sat 22nd - Sun 23rd September 2012
The WILD WEST BIKE TOUR (WWBT) is a socially competitive team/individual event raising community awareness and funds for charity. Whilst the emphasis on The Wild West Bike Tour is on participation and community engagement, funds raised assist our primary beneficiary; WA Police Legacy in their support of surviving families of deceased police officers.
History
Paul Matthews, a Police Sergeant with the Geraldton Police has breathed new life into the Wild West Bike Tour, after a 2-year absence from the cycling scene in Western Australia. In conjunction with fellow officers and members of the Spokes Cycle Club, the event was put back on the map in 2011 attracting over 100 competitors and raising $20,000 for Police Legacy.
The event objectives are to foster community relationships between police and the communities they served, promote the health benefits of physical activity and raise awareness and much needed funds to our charitable group Police Legacy.
The Wild West Bike Tour was established in 2000 and evolved into a very successful cycling event and a principle fundraiser for the Western Australian Police Legacy. Historically the event had been ridden away from the City of Geraldton and returned a day later.
The new format introduced in 2011 kept it in the surrounds of the City of Geraldton Greenough making it a community event. The introduction of a exciting circuit race during the afternoon of Saturday 22nd September will add to the ownership for the City and be a spectacle for rider’s spectators alike.
The evolution begun in 2011 and will continue in 2012 to make this a fantastic Blue Ribbon Cycling event attracting competitors from all over the state of Western Australia and also contributing much needed funds for WA Police Legacy.
To fully realise our potential however, our organising committee are desirous in securing generous corporate partners to assist with the costs associated with conducting such a large scale charitable event. Valuable funds raised would contribute towards catering, road traffic management and safety clothing for our fantastic volunteers.
